Taylor Poppmeier, LCSW

THerapist / Director of business development

My path towards becoming a therapist was not linear, as so few things in life are. I began in the marketing world and loved gaining a deeper understanding of my clients to help their companies succeed. It turns out, what I enjoyed most about my role was getting to know other people. This reignited an interest in psychology and mental health. I pursued a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California.

My clinical experience began by working with transitional age youth as they navigated the evolution from childhood to adulthood. This opportunity really sparked a fascination with the process of change and the value of self-discovery. I have also worked in addiction treatment and community health. Through the variety of mental health settings, I have had the chance to work with individuals from a wide array of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Relationship Builder

The biggest indicator of success in therapy isn’t the therapist’s credentials or your time investment, it is the therapeutic alliance. When you can feel understood, great things can happen. I would love the opportunity to get to know you and to create a space where you feel safe to explore the complexities that make you unique. Aside from allowing for therapeutic growth, building a positive relationship can benefit you in all other facets of your life. You will have a roadmap for how to create a trusting, communicative, and compassionate connection.

I also work with couples through an Emotionally Focused lens. Our partners are frequently our primary support. They are who we come home to and who we experience life with. Relationships significantly impact our lives. Couples therapy can provide you and your partner a space to explore areas of weakness and develop more strengths. I enjoy working with all types of couples through all types of challenges and am proudly an LGBTQIA+ ally. The road may be winding, but we can navigate it together.

Performance Enhancer

The world today encourages comparison. We are constantly confronted with what everyone else is achieving, with their highlight reel. I’d love to work with you to uncover what YOUR highlight reel looks like and how we can work together to help you achieve it. I have experience working with competitive athletes, with business professionals, with entrepreneurs. My experience in the business world gives me a unique insight that not every therapist has. I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and have both a deep respect and intimate understanding of how difficult this responsibility can be.

The stress of striving for success can have a damaging effect on other facets of your life, on your mental and physical health. It can skew our sense of self and our priorities. Together, we can explore your stressors, increase your ability to copy, and work to improve outcomes.

Nonjudgmental Listener

Were you ever told “you ask a lot of questions” as a child? I definitely was! This childhood curiosity matured into a desire to understand others. Regardless of your history, I would love to hear your story. Listening to you explain what led you to this point in your life can drive insight. How we speak about ourselves and our lives, that forms our reality. Let’s work together to create the reality you would like to have.

How I Help:

I believe the relationship we have with ourselves is indicative of every other relationship we have. I will meet you where you are to help you uncover patterns from your past that are impacting your present. We will work together to identify where it is you would like to go with your future. I utilize a variety of different styles including psychodynamic, attachment, and cognitive modalities. Each person is different, therefore each intervention should be too. If you are looking for someone you can connect with, someone to point out your blind spots, and someone who is compassionately direct, I am your person.

More About Me:

When I am not in front of my computer or sitting opposite you on the couch, you are most likely to find me walking the neighborhood with my dog Moose. I love exploring new interests. Because of this love, you may find failed attempts at gardening and healthy baking in my office. There are also at least three half-baked itineraries for a trip to be found on my desktop at any given time. Currently, I am day-dreaming of Norwegian Fjords, beaches in Belize, and a road trip through Glacier National Park.
