Lesli Mathis, LCSW

Therapist

Hello! My name is Lesli Mathis and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My role as a therapist is to be a non-judgmental listener, an insight-builder, and a strength-finder. I work with adults who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, or traumatic experiences.  Whether you are experiencing crisis in your life, or working to manage daily stressors, I can provide the support you need to feel successful and fulfilled. My hope for each client is that our therapeutic relationship becomes the vehicle through which they can enact change and gain a deeper understanding of themselves.

Non-Judgemental Listener

Has the fear of how others may perceive you ever stopped you from expressing your true thoughts or feelings?   It can be hard to admit to ourselves when we are having a problem, or not reaching our goals, let alone discussing these concerns with others. I feel it is crucial to the therapeutic process that when you come to my office you feel comfortable and free to discuss those topics which are often the hardest to speak about.  I ensure that judgment and critique is put aside in our work together.  I’m there to accept you unconditionally and to help you face whatever it is that you are struggling with.

insight builder

Sometimes when we are in crisis it is challenging to see things from another perspective. This is where I can help.  Although you are the expert on your life and your struggles, my role is to help process your feelings and experiences in ways that bring about greater meaning and understanding.  Fostering insight and understanding into the “whys” behind our thoughts, feelings and behaviors helps create change, and I am here to collaborate with you on that journey.

Trauma-informed provider

Through my work, I have seen the impact trauma can have on an individual whether it is many years in the past or just occurred last week. Trauma comes in so many forms: relationships, workplaces, childhood. Regardless where your version of trauma originated, it is likely influencing your thoughts and behaviors today. We can work together to link the past to your present, to identify unhealthy behaviors and unravel unhealthy thoughts. Healing from trauma is a winding road. I am ready to be your partner in the journey.

Strength Finder

I believe that everyone of us has strengths that help us succeed, but when we experience life stressors it can be hard, at times, to truly see the strengths we possess.  As your therapist, my goal is to not just tell you what your strengths are, but work with you to help you realize your potential, build your confidence and assist you in building the skills necessary to achieve your goals.

How I Help

My role is to create space for you breathe, slow down, and be attentive to what’s happening in your body and in your life.  I use an integrative, trauma-informed approach to help you tell your story, identify your strengths, and build your capacity for resilience. As with most things, effective therapy doesn’t have a “one size fits all” approach that works for everyone. My style is to adapt to the needs of my clients and their therapeutic goals. I promote a safe, trusting, non-judgmental environment to help my clients discover the potential to reach their goals.

More About Me

In my spare time you will find me in the kitchen, cooking and creating new recipes that I can share with my friends and family.  I also enjoy spending time at the beach, hiking, gardening or with my family, friends and lovable cats, Watson & Gracie.
